Beijing Shouwang Church Announcement on Outdoor Worship Service on August 19

Dear brothers and sisters:

Peace in the Lord! On this past Sunday, we held the thirty-fourth outdoor worship service of this year. It was a sunny day. As far as we know, on Sunday morning, besides the sister who was taken to be detained at a hotel on Friday, at least twenty believers were taken away from locations near the platform for attending the outdoor service. They were then sent to three different local police stations. Six believers were released on Sunday morning, and the rest of them were released one after another in the afternoon or late at night. The sister detained at Dongsheng police station of Haidian District was not released until 19:00pm on Monday, after thirty-five hours detainment. May God remember each believer’s sacrifice for attending the outdoor service.

Police and national security staff are getting anxious and nervous lately, since the Communist Party’s 18th Congress is about to take place. Therefore, they have been forcing some believers to move out through putting pressure on their landlords, and they successfully made two sisters move out of their current apartments. In addition, some police have been exerting pressure on some believers who attend outdoor service through threatening their family members or people at their working places. Worse still, the deputy director of Dongsheng police station mistreated a sister during her detainment there. This believer was brought from Zhongguancun Street police station to Dongsheng police station near 17:00pm on Sunday. Then Liu Leilei, the deputy director locked her to an iron chair for twenty-four hours! He did not allow her to eat anything nor to drink any water. And he turned on the air-condition, set the temperature to the lowest to freeze her. Believer who waited outside sent in four meals, but she only got one deep-fried twisted dough stick on Monday afternoon right before she was released. When she finally got out, she was exhausted and almost collapsed, with swollen legs.

Those law enforcement departments, without any legal basis, flagrantly abuse their public power, interfering citizens’ belief and daily life, and undermining their relationship with family members, with people at their working places, and with their landlords. They are violating the law and are intensifying social conflicts. Therefore, we strongly protest against their behavior. May God have mercy on them, to cause them to turn to their conscience, so that they would stop doing things that are immoral and illegal. We also especially pray for believers who have been mistreated by them, that God will protect them and comfort them, and strengthen each of us as well.

May peace and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the mercy and love of Father God, and the console and guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, be with each brother and sister of Shouwang Church and all the churches who remember Shouwang Church in prayers, from this time on and forevermore! Amen.
